IOWA BLACKHAWKS READY FOR ‘08 SEASON
Tony Doremus, Sales Marketing Director for the Iowa Blackhawks professional arena football team of Council Bluffs, spoke to club members about the development of the Blackhawks team in recent years. The Blackhawk team began with an 8-man pickup team about eight years ago. Since then other regional teams have organized and become members of the American Professional Football League. The Blackhawks now play in a regional five team Division including teams in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. According to Doremus the playing season of six home games starts May 3 at the MidAmerican Center in Council Bluffs and runs to July 12. Doremus stated that 8-man arena football is quick and high scoring and exciting to watch as it is played on an indoor field half the standard football size. The 25 member team is planning to sponsor a youth football clinic and has a goal to develop youth sports facilities in Council Bluffs.
