LOCAL STUDENT DEMONSTATES LEADERSHIP

Treynor High School Senior Nichole Schmidt spoke to Club members about her experiences in a variety of recent activities.  Nichole, the daughter of Roger and Christine Schmidt, explained she was selected by the local American Legion Post to attend Girl’s State at the University of Iowa where she met many other girls from across Iowa.  During the week long program she served on the City Council and was Director of Public Health.  Schmidt described her memorable experiences being selected as the Queen of WestFair for 2006 as well as Miss Congeniality.  She then participated in the Iowa State Fair Queen Pageant.  Schmidt explained her mother was a strong influence to get involved with the local Queen Pageant and she is grateful for the urging.  This past summer Nichole said she taught a Vacation Bible School class of fourteen 2nd grade students.  This was a major challenge but very enjoyable.

Schmidt explained her senior year will be very busy.  She is President of the senior class, President of the Junior Optimist Octagon Club and Editor of the school annual.  Schmidt noted the Octagon Club has about 24 members and meets Wednesday before school at 7:45 a.m.

Schmidt stated she is an officer of the Jennie Edmundson Hospital Teen Volunteer group and has participated several years.  She has been a 4-H member many years and one of her local fair entries advanced to State Fair this year.  He pet rabbit (Howie) and cat (Carmen) were both county fair exhibits. 

Schmidt explained her plans after graduation are to attend Creighton University and study a medical specialty such as radiology; however she is not so excited about the 13-yr of required study.

Schmidt expressed sincere thanks to her parents for their guidance and support which as allowed her to achieve her experiences and successes to date.
