Iowa High School Sports
Kevin White, the High School sports writer for the Omaha World Herald, spoke about his responsibilities at the newspaper. He went to Tri-Center and graduated from Dana college in 1990. He worked part-time in college, then started working full time for the NonPareil in 1991. After the NonPareil was bought by the World Herald, he went to work for the World Herald in 2000.
The Omaha World Herald is the second largest independently owned newspaper in the U.S. It produces five editions daily, the Metro, the Bulldog for western Nebraska, the Iowa for rural Iowa, the Lincoln edition, and the Sunrise edition. Most people in Council Bluffs receive the Metro edition. Kevin works for the Iowa edition and reports on sixty High Schools in Iowa.
Kevin’s responsibilities this time of year include collecting weekly statistics for sports, compiling ratings for football and volleyball, and composing spotlights of selected youth in the area. He occasionally helps report on College games. With a deadline of 11:00 p.m., he relies heavily on coaches reporting game information and statistics for the daily newspaper.
