TO GET IN THE WAY

Kent Gade of Griswold is a man on a mission. Kent explained that he is the Iowa State Director of the Elks drug awareness effort.  In this role he is also on the Elks national team that decides the best way to allocate over $650,000 to enhance drug awareness.  Kent said that Optimists are important to the Elks drug awareness program because each one of use needs be informed and get in the way of drug use.  Kent shared information on current popular drugs and the methods of use.  Drugs mentioned include ecstasy, GHB, LSD, Ketamine, methamphetamine, and Rohypnol and are often made available at group Raves.  Kent noted new users are induced to try these club drugs by others because they are available and affordable, they alter reality, they are believed to be safe, and they can be taken orally.  Methamphetamine is the most used drug Kent explained.  It leads to physical deterioration and is it very difficult to stop using it.
