TRA IMPROVEMENTS ATTRACT MORE GOLFERS
Kenneth Knowles, Past President of the Treynor Recreation
Association (TRA) Board, spoke to club members about recent improvements in TRA
operations. Knowles noted that TRA oversees the management of a 9-hole, 2966 yard,
par 36, golf course with associated equipment plus the Clubhouse Sports Bar. There
is also a swimming pool that has been closed because of the expense to replace or
repair equipment. Knowles said that proposals for getting a swimming pool in Treynor
are being considered. The golf course has irrigated fairways and greens, with rolling
hills, mature trees, and water hazards to make for a pleasant golfing experience. Knowles noted that retired grounds keeper Floyd
Campbell is applying his experience working at an Omaha golf course to the TRA course. According
to Knowles, many visitors away from Treynor enjoy the experience on a smaller 9-hole
golf course. TRA memberships are very important to sustain the operation of TRA.
Knowles explained that TRA is seeking family and individual members and has special
member fees for younger members and for referrals. Also there is a corporate member
class. Knowles stated the TRA membership has increased substantially this year.
He felt the course improvements and especially the club house renovation has been
a factor. This past winter with much volunteer effort the club house was remodeled.
Tony and Sharon Gage are managing the new Clubhouse Sports Bar and Grill that is
open for lunch and dinner throughout the year. Knowles stated that another improvement
the TRA Board is working on is a new entrance from Highway 92. According to Knowles
TRA membership is growing again and the Board is much more positive about the future
of TRA. The Board is also supportive of junior golf programs. Student participation
from Treynor schools has doubled the past year. There is a web site with detail
information about TRA, even a Clubhouse menu, found at: www.traclubhouse.com
