IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT

Retired Pott. Co. Assessor Jim O’Neil spoke about the past, present and future of the assessment process for property taxes. The current computerized system based on real market value is as fair and open as practical, Jim said. Yet, there is an effort by some Iowa legislators to replace the current system with system modeled on a California method. Jim stated this ‘new’ assessment method is not a better way than the current one.
