NEW ELEMENTARY COUNSELOR AT TREYNOR

  Jann Strutzenberg grew up in the Treynor area and graduated from Treynor High.  After several years of teaching and counseling in other communities she is now the new Elementary Guidance Counselor for Treynor Schools.  Strutzenberg said she was very happy to be at work in the Treynor Schools and to be in a position to add a new dimension to the elementary educational program.  As this is a new position for the elementary school, she is often asked what an elementary guidance counselor does.  Strutzenberg explained that elementary guidance is different than secondary guidance.  She teaches to all students each week about life skills such as decision making, communication, friendship, goal setting, etc.  Strutzenberg also counsels small groups and individuals according to needs.  These needs may relate to problems at school, at home, with friends, or other fears or causes of stress.  Mainly, Strutzenberg emphasized, she is a friend for the student to discuss problems and for parents to understand the growth and development of their child.
