Underwood Optimist member Dale Robertson spoke to Club members about the value of the Optimist International Foundation. As Iowa District Optimist Foundation Chair, Dale emphasized how important it is to understand the role the foundation has in providing resources for Optimist Clubs to serve youth. The Foundation provides grants to Optimist International (OI) for youth scholarships, educational programs, dissemination of youth program information, and training to expand Optimists services to youth and communities. Over 1.5 million youth are served annually by OI through programs funded by the Foundation. Dale said the Iowa District goal for contributions tot he Foundation is $11 per member. He noted that 70% of contributions are used for projects, 10% for administration, and the remaining 20% are added to the Foundation reserve.
