On April 17, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. the Council Bluffs YMCA will hold a free Healthy Kids Day. It will include a variety of activities, including a mini-triathlon, bike rodeo, obstacle course, family health fair, eye exams, car seat safety check, and a variety of other activities.
The Council Bluffs YMCA has about 1200 members. They cater to youth, but include activities for all ages, such as Silver Sneakers, Aerobics, Aquacise, and socials.
An important summer program is Teen Discovery. It is geared toward 7th-10 grade youth and helps teens build communication, leadership, and explore their interests. It is a ten week program, running from June 1 to August 8. The program is daily, 8:00-5:00. It includes group projects centered around YMCA core values, teamwork, and communication. Afternoons are spent on field trips, special events, speakers, and service projects.
The YMCA is planning a capital campaign in June for an addition to the building. After the addition they will have separate wings for different ages. They have purchased property to the South and will add to the North end of the building.
