25 Year Celebration

The Treynor Optimist Club held its 25 year celebration on Sunday, September 27 wtih 125 people in attendance from the Treynor community and from Optimist Clubs throughout the area.  The program began with two of the Treynor Cub Scouts from Pack 729 presenting the flag followed by the pledge of allegiance.  Giff’s Catering presented a fine dinner for the evening.  Treynor Junior Optimist Club members assisted with drinks, cake, and cleanup.

Highlights for the evening included an address by Treynor mayor Charles Killian, a short talk by Kenneth Hummel who helped establish the Treynor Optimist Club 25 years ago, recognition of charter members of the club who were in attendance, and a slideshow review of club activities over the past 25 years.  Gary Funkhouser installed the Treynor Optimist Club officers for the next year.

The Optimist Club also recognized members of the community who have dedicated their time to help youth in the community.  The Club recognized Jeff Carley, Travis Castle, Brian and Bev Green, Dan Schleisman, and Ben Weitzel with plaques and a summary of their activities for youth.  Gary Funkhouser was recognized as Treynor Optimist of the Year.  The evening concluded with entertainment by magician Peter the Near (Great), singing of God Bless America, birthday cake, and the results of a silent auction of gifts from businesses and individuals in the local area.
